Other disability law guides

This guide should help you get started with your disability law research, but there are lots of other great guides available online.  These are some suggested guides for further research:

  • Cornell Legal Information Institute (LII)-Disability Law
    Cornell's LII provides links to major federal disability law and a brief overview to federal disability law. Information and links to recent federal judicial decision on disability law are included.
  • A Guide to Disability Rights Laws
    This guide is by the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and provides an overview of the different federal laws governing disability rights. Information in the guide includes citations to laws and contact information for reporting violations of the laws.
    A user-friendly site giving an overview and important information about federal programs geared toward people with disabilities.
  • Employment Laws: Disability & Discrimination
    U.S. Department of Labor-Office of Disability Employment Policy.
    Provides links to and information about major federal employment discrimination laws.
  • Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Laws, Cases, and Resources
    Developed by the Law Librarians' Society of Washington, D.C. There are links throughout to sources on the ADA and compliance.
  • International and Comparative Disability Law
    Syracuse University College of Law. This guide examines disability law through an international human rights lens. Broken down into international disability laws, regional disability laws, and individual countries' disability laws.


This guide is intended to help those who represent clients with disabilities. It touches on several important federal laws protecting the rights of the disabled, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as Social Security claims.  

This guide will also help you find background medical information about disabilities and give you the names of a few disability advocacy groups.
